Parks & Recreation Northern Manhattan Master Plan
Recent and Planned Capital Projects (8/12)

The High Bridge Park is a recreational area administrated by NYC Parks and Recreation. It is located between 155th St on the south and Dyckman Street on the north. Edgecombe Ave, Amsterdam Ave, and 10th Ave on the east and the Harlem River (and Drive) on the east.  There are approximately 120 acres of open space currently in the Park. The Park has trails for hiking and bicycling and a Recreation Center, "The Highbridge Field House" with many facilities for the community, including swimming, baseball, basketball, billiards, and a host of other sports related activities.  The Field House, which is the hub of the Park is located at 2301 Amsterdam Ave. between 173rd and 174th Streets. Also located within the Park is The High Bridge, and The High Bridge Tower which were part of the Croton Aqueduct which was built in the first half of the 19th century to bring water to New York City.  The Park is undergoing massive redevelopment to restore many of the facilities to make it a magnet for the community development.

  1. I took a stroll in the Highbridge Park last weekend and found it a delightful experience. Too bad so much of the park is blocked from the public, but that is to be expected given the construction going on. I can't wait for it to be done.

  3. Spray Showers
Just because the weather is heating up doesn't mean there aren't plenty of opportunities for kids to have fun outside. On hot days, make sure to splash around at the spray shower in HIghbridge Park. In general, spray showers operate on days when the temperature hits 80 degrees or higher, so you can cool down while having a blast!
