EEAC Plans Tour of The High Bridge on Saturday, May 14th 1pm



Join EEAC for a guided tour of the High Bridge! The High Bridge is the oldest standing bridge in New York City, having originally opened as an aqueduct in 1848 and reopened as a pedestrian walkway in 2015 after being closed for over 40 years. Two tour guides from Friends of the Old Croton Aqueduct will guide participants over the bridge with an optional extension to the Morris-Jumel Mansion. There is a separate fee of $10 for those adult who wish to tour the historic mansion. 
The meeting point is on the sidewalk at 165th St. and Edgecombe Ave., in front of the park sign for Adventure Playground, which is part of Highbridge Park in Manhattan. Participants will walk to and from the bridge on a paved path that takes about 10-15 min.  In case of inclement weather, the tour will be rescheduled for a later date.


There's no shade on the bridge so please bring hats, sunscreen, etc. to protect your skin.

JazzFest Weekend at the Morris-Jumel Mansion

Put August 15 and 16, 2015 on your calendar.  The Morris-Jumel Mansion Museum will celebrate its Sugar Hill heritage with two days of classic jazz—all of it played outdoors in beautiful Roger Morris Park. Free. No registration required.   Hours are Saturday from 2pm until Sunday at 6pm.

For those who are not familiar with the House, Park, or the immediate area it is certainly worth the visit. The Morris-Jumel Mansion Museum is in Roger Morris Park.  It both the Mansion and the Park are located immediately adjacent to Highbridge Park along Edgecombe Ave. between 160th and 162nd Streets.

Jumel Terrace Historic District

Jumel Terrace Historic District is a National Historic District in Washington HeightsNew York, New York. It consists of 49 contributing residential row houses and apartment buildings built between 1882 and 1909. The buildings are primarily wood or brick in the Queen Anne and Romanesque styles and includes a cobblestone street.  Also located in the district is the Morris-Jumel Mansion, dated to about 1765.

The District is located in Manhattan between 162nd and 160th Street on the North and South and St. Nicholas Ave. and Edgecombe Ave. on the West and East.  It is located primarily immediately to the West of the Morris Jumel Mansion Museum which is adjacent to Highbridge Park. The streets contained within the District include parts of Edgecombe Ave., 160th St., and 162nd St., and the entirety of Jumel Terrace and Sylvan Terrace. Some of the district is on the Southern side of 160th St. and the Northern side of 162nd. St.
