According to an article in the New York Daily News Highbridge Park will have a new skate park constructed under the Alexander Hamilton Bridge. It will be the largest in the City. The Skate Park, designed by Steve Rodriguez, sometimes called the New York skateboarding King, will ostensibly be completed this Fall, but questions remain as to
whether this was an reliable completion date.  The skate park is yet one more attraction to the up and coming destination of Highbridge Park on the East side of Washington Heights. The City anxiously awaits the completion of the High Bridge Redevelopment project scheduled for an opening next summer (2014) at a cost of $61 Million.

According to the Daily News article "The park is intended to create a safe, local community space designed for kids to hang out and practice. It’s also the only skate park in the five boroughs that has enough lighting to permit skaters to stay longer during the shorter fall and winter days."

On November 3, 2014 USANews.net reported that the new skate park, New York City's largest, has now finally opened.
